Catnipped!
This was another illustration I did for a Clip Studio Paint competition, this time around the theme was space. I thought about a few ideas but I wanted this time to try and capture something cute, so I decided to draw my cat in space. It eventually became a narrative of my cat trying to smuggle alien catnip, but on his way out he left the hatch open and his cargo is spilling out into space. I really wanted to create a world where my cat lived in, and thus I added in little bit more detail with the space station, which could be where she frequently stops for a break and perhaps even make deals.
Concepts
Here are some of the rough drawings to get ideas flowing, I did struggle a bit with the head as it was the first time I drew cats, so I did have to go through a few cat references until I was happy with what I have.
The cat in a turtle suit really got stuck in my head, and so I decided to make the space suit look like a turtle suit, in a way it looks like the cat is wearing one of the TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle) skin. And the turtle cruiser as I have named it, was heavily influenced by sea turtles.
